The Swoopy One Needs a Bag

I need to get a pannier for the Swoopy One (ya, it's still nameless.)   I'm thinking about something like the Minnehaha Canvas Utility Pannier.  Simplicity being the key and I can get by with only one bag.  My preference would be to come across the perfect bag to convert into a pannier, but we'll see.  That will involve some thrifting.  Twist.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

  2. I've always wanted to make panniers out of canvas knapsacks from army surplus. Sometimes they have perfectly sized knapsacks for cheap. There is always the ever useful plastic kitty litter bucket pannier option. I've gotten a couple for free from my neighbor's recycling bins, and it only takes a couple of bucks worth of hardware to create the mounts.

  3. I'd hold out for something vintage..
I'm in the hunt currently for a saddlebag or something that could become one. Now that I have all these bikes without racks, I need to figure out a way to carry things on them.

  4. BDD - I had army surplus in mind for sure!

Hayley - I love the look of those bags but I'm not crazy about double panniers, which I think they are. ?

I'll probably go thrifting this weekend and see what I can find.

  5. oh good point... well Laplander is actually two people in Pennsylvania who make all the bags by hand to order. Maybe if you ask, they'd make a single side pannier?
