Cold, Wet Sunday

I had to cancel the Lovely Sunday Ride today because it was anything but lovely out.  It was cold and constantly raining most of the day and as I look out the back door to the west, it looks like it's not going to let up anytime soon. There was about an hour where the rain stopped and the sun tried to sneak out, rather unsuccessfully.  Nevertheless, we celebrated with chocolate milk shakes.

I've been jonesing for a thrift and tomorrow is my day - 25% everything at my favorite store. Yet I had to thrift today.  Had to!  So we went to an ARC that I hit for the first time a few weeks back but didn't have much time to assess.   I swore I'd only buy items with 50% off color tags...and I did.  Well, all but one item and I had a 50% off coupon for that.  We got:

  • Periwinkle Talbot's summer sweater
  • Slate grey boat neck sweater - It's 60% cotton and 40% acrylic so I'll probably end up hating it.  Acrylic is...ugh, < shiver >. But the cut is fantastic so for $1.50 I figured I might as well give it a try.
  • Black and white patterned blousy, swingy shirt.  It will look nice with leggings, pencil leg white capri's or a black pencil skirt (which I have an abundance of.)
  • Rich purple shawl-front summer weight sweater
  • Aqua tank top
  • Two summer weight blankets for the couch, one of these completely fell apart in the washer!  Completely!
  • Dolly car seat for B2's baby dolls
  • Stack of video game magazines for B1
One of my girlfriends is picking up the kids for a sleepover early in the afternoon tomorrow and I'll then head to my favorite thrift store, all. by. myself!

After a lot of running around and nothing to eat except milk shakes since breakfast, we were very ready for dinner when we got home. It was make-your-own pizza night inspired by Lisa at Bake-Bike-Blog.  B1 doesn't like sauce....of any kind....on anything....period.  So he had some garlic, cheese bread with lots of olive oil.  B2 made a 'spider' on her pizza with some broccoli and carrots.  And I intended to make a margherita but forgot the fresh motz at the market, so it's margherita-ish.  A salad with greens from the garden and some sweet cherries rounded out the meal.

  2. Hooray for summer and cherries! I just ate a big bowl for dessert today, too. But my dinner didn't look nearly so delicious-- major food jealousy!

  4. Ele, Jonesing means that you're craving something intensely. It's usually in reference to hard drugs but hey, thrifting is a pretty intense whole body addiction! heh!

  5. I love thrifting, and luckily so does my hubby. We went to Goodwill as part of our day long date on Saturday. I got an adorable red with white polka dots halter dress. Yay!

  7. I am a firm believer that melted cheese makes anything better!
Nasty weather all around I'm afraid. We have been trying to prime our fence before installing it, and we spent the weekend painting in short busts between rainshowers, then frantically putting up the tarp "tent".
It was a lot of work, for not much visible progress...
