Does Mrs. Gale Need Fenders?

If so, she'd get these beautiful Honjo Le Paon fenders from VO:

I'm so conflicted!  I think she'd look amazing with these beauties however, I really like the simple elegance that she has without fenders.  Both Irene and Vivian have fenders so when it's sloppy out I have two bikes I can choose from.  Giving her fenders would be purely for looks.  Thoughts?

  1. I'm kind of leaning towards no but then 2 seconds later I lean towards yes.

Mrs. Gale is gorgeous alone. The colours going would almost be thrown off by more chrome...but then the chain wheel would stand out, which could actually make things prettier!

And as far as fenders go? Those are drool-worthy. Those are the kind of fenders you dream about at night and then when you see them in the day you wonder how exactly it was that they could truly exist. If my Galaxie ends up needing new fenders? THOSE are the fenders she will have.

Wow. I might have a fender issue :)

I vote flip a coin, take the decision making out of your hands, just to see what the universe says for you!

  5. Fenders most definitely; every bike needs them unless it is purely for racing. Fenders.

  6. If you get the fenders from VO, I'd recommend the Honjo ones not the VO brand ones- I had the VO brand ones and they fell apart in several ways after about 18 months..
I'm firmly in the pro-fender camp, but I'm such a IGH/ chainguard/ fenders kind of girl, that I'm not an unbiased opinion.

  8. Cycler, Thanks so much for the 411 on the VO fenders. I was considering the Zeppelins just to save some dollas, but the Honjos are just so flippin' beautiful!

  9. fenders, fenders, fenders!

whatever you choose, just make sure you measure the distance between the chainstays (the frame tubes that go from the bottom bracket to the rear axle). measure just in front of the rear tire, where the fender would fit through. make sure you have enough distance for the fender to fit! (you can get by with a few mm less than the fender width, since you can squeeze the fenders a bit to fit).
